Hydrant Flushing Program
We will be flushing hydrants between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm periodically Monday through Thursday throughout the year as time permits. So if you notice “discolored water” during this time it takes a couple hours to completely settle. Just flush your system starting with the farthest bath tub (not shower head). What we are trying to accomplish are a few things; Exercise the hydrant and make sure it works properly, perform a flow test, and clear the mains of years of settled silt. All of these things are normal in a municipal water system. So the water you see our staff flushing from the hydrant is not “wasting water” but is rather a necessary function to maintaining a municipal drinking water system.
